Having your employees engage in Team Building Activities can be amazingly helpful for nurturing a potent workplace climate within your company. More times than not, employers are always looking for new ways that will help build better communications, enhance job satisfaction, and provide relaxing outlets for expression. Most businesses find that employees become refreshed and rejuvenated following team building activities, a benefit that will surely play a role in improving company productivity and efficiency.

Many organizations that have had team building companies facilitate activities for their employees have seen the benefits of successful team building. Most companies feature a corporate workforce of people that do not know each other well outside of the workplace and therefore are not entirely at ease with each other.  A natural amount of camaraderie will most likely develop between people who interact with each other on a daily basis, particularly those who sit next to or near each other, but people at slightly further reaches of the organization are sometimes left with a faceless impression of each other, sometimes resulting in an unjustified animosity. Team Building Exercises are therefore primarily designed to allow people to get to know each other in a relaxed and informal environment who otherwise would not be given the opportunity to meet each other outside of a professional situation.  Any bonds made during the day can increase the co-operation between employees on an organization-wide level and therefore have a positive impact on the teamwork efficiency of the organization.

Team Building Activities

Any activity that aids in bringing employees together will begin building connections between employees, an aspect of effective team building. Going for bowling or sporting contests, having weekly luncheons with employees, and providing other professional contests that include gift cards or small electronics as prizes can be very helpful for boosting employees’ spirits. Building an effective team requires an atmosphere of positivity, fun, and ease, and these techniques may promote this even further.

Performance

Since fun team building activities provide a natural change of the day-to-day grind, employees may feel rejuvenated  when they come back to the office. High energy and positive team building activities can be a great way to clear the mind and producing a stronger focus on one’s work. Team-building activities can and do play a large role in increasing productivity if implemented regularly.

Employee Retention

Employees who know that they are being supported by their management tend to develop a sense of pride and passion in their work. Building a cohesive team requires engaging with employees, and this often correlates with a low turnover rate. This can save money in the long run, as it often requires money to go through a new hiring process. Plus, hiring someone new drains a company of time, an aspect that can also hinder business productivity. At we have  quarterly office meetings where employees can give their input to solve a problem or save the company and make a suggestion on something that could improve the level of service we provide to a client. Employees feel engaged when they are heard and their ideas are accepted and incorporated. When they feel they make a difference, they stay.

A Valuable Carryover into Personal Life

Today’s employees are looking for a good balance in what they do as an employee as well as personal life. Too much work can be a deterrent to performance and morale. Performing and being involved in team building activities in the workplace can surely carry over into personal life and can prove be a valuable asset for your employees. They may take what they learned during the team building event and apply to family life, and even their involvement and interactions within their community.

Promotes Problem Solving Skills

In the workplace a crisis can happen at any time. Well thought out team building activities that require coworkers to work together to solve problems can improve the ability to think rationally and strategically. Teams that are able to determine when a problem arises and know what they can do about it, can then effectively take charge when a real crisis occurs.

Improving morale within your company can be as simple as providing team building activities on a regular basis for your personnel that will provide a long lasting effect and a positive investment that can yield many years of profitable returns.

I have recently had the opportunity to interview many prospective sales people as candidates for entry level sales positions which has brought in candidates from many different industries and professions. I shockingly discovered through my process of interviewing that many of the applicants experienced bad management /employee relationships in their past jobs that resulted in resentful attitudes or quitting. In any case it seems that there are a lot of supervisors or managers that are not properly trained to manage other people leads to unsatisfactory production and low profit margins. team buils pymaid Sometimes companies have are forced to hire inexperienced management personnel or they do not have the time or resources to properly train them. So how do companies remedy a bad management situation? Well it obviously starts with reassessing and retraining of management and supervisory roles. Most times it is better to get an opinion and a fix from an unbiased outsource, this has two benefits in that the outside source can provide the unbiased judgment and it takes the burden off you and/or your company being perceived as the bad guy.

In addition to my role as a sales consultant I have been practicing leadership and team building training for several years. Team building exercises are a way of realigning, restoring team values and re-establishing effective communication channels not only between management and the teams but between teams (co-workers) as well. For Example I had the opportunity to facilitate a “Cultivating team a Atmosphereprogram for one the veterans associations management teams. They seemed to have interdepartmental issues – dissention, total communication breakdown with different management styles ECT. They were looking to quickly repair a breakdown and dysfunctional situation immediately.  As the participants came in the workshop room to choose their seating you could see the division among the personnel. “The Cultivating a Team Atmosphere workshop is a one day team building workshop with exercises and teachings to help overcome any obstacles that are inhibiting a productive and harmonious workplace.  The  participants were lead through various exercises that uncovered and resolved some very long standing issues. After the first break, one of the top managers who sat in on the leadership workshop took me aside and said that she was pleased that we had made some breakthroughs in a short period of time. It usually does not take more than a half a day to start uncovering and resolving communication issues and collaboration problems that can be easily remedied. Once you have people together and take them through a few exercises they realize and then are open to discuss their errors and problems at hand and be able to resolve them in a focused and non- threatening environment.

team performance. You should find the team building activity that suits your needs best and there are plenty to choose from.

  • Conduct Employee Feedback Activities: Employee surveys and feedback activities

are a great way of breaking the ice and encouraging the employees to speak freely. It

makes the employees feel wanted and gives them an assurance of the fact that their

opinions are valued.

  • Promote Informal Addressing: Step out of the traditional formal way of employee-boss

interaction and speak freely. This gives the employees a reassurance that you

are one among them and not a corporate Hitler. This will work to your advantage as it

will encourage open workplace communication, sharing of ideas, and will help to

maintain healthy work relations.

  • Organize a Day Trip: Reward your employees for the good work that they have done

in the past by organizing a day trip. Encourage employees to bring along their

spouses and children. It can be a welcome break from the daily work-related

5 Ways to Motivate Your Team

Ahh, the science of team building. It’s an art, a gift, a down-right necessity when it comes to proper management. Here are 5 ways you can motivate your team to work harder, better and become more productive.

#1. Don’t neglect team building exercises.5 Ways to Motivate Your Team

If everyone continually sits at their desk working on their own project and there is no interaction, communication can get dropped and the end result could be disastrous. Never neglect teambuilding exercises because they do actually work. Even though you might get a few eye rolls, it’s best to have everyone stop what they’re doing, come together for teambuilding activities that they all have to work together with in order to get the job done together. These teambuilding exercises could be in the form of physical activities, volunteering together, sharing a meal together or small field trips. They don’t have to be an intricate game of twister or an offshoot of some drinking game.

#2. Communication.

Communication plays a critical role in developing a successful team. Different patterns of communication can be the most important predictor of a team’s success. Regardless of how the team members feel about each other, meaning they don’t need to be best friends in order to communicate, team member still need to overcome you can their needs, desires, and where they are in the project in order for the project to succeed.

#3. Brainstorm but not altogether.

Studies have shown that brainstorming in a cohesive group all at the same time can really just end up in a muddled mess. Instead change the term brainstorming into “electronic brain writing”. This means chatting through an online program, focusing on quality and combining the ideas produced by others in order to make a cohesive plan.

#4. Evaluate everyone’s strengths and weaknesses.

If you have someone in the team that’s an analytical thinker, someone that the doer, someone visionary and the leader and a follower, it can help bring the entire team together to work as a team. However, you need to understand what everyone’s gifts are. You certainly wouldn’t want a follower in a leader’s position nor would you want a visionary in the doers position. Once you understand people’s strengths and their weaknesses you can put them to work honing their skill for the betterment of the team and the project.

#5. Value each person individually.

Just as we mentioned in the previous step, understanding people’s strengths and weaknesses and utilizing their guests will encourage them to work harder and better at what they do. It’s okay to have extroverts and introverts on one team and even though the extroverts might be outgoing and encouraged to open up, the introverts may have more deep-seated and processed thoughts and suggestions that can really drive the foundation of the project forward. Never give up on someone just because you don’t understand their skill set and gifting.
